TRW Automotive is among the world’s ten largest automotive suppliers. In a brand new TRW electronics assembly plant in Peterlee, Co Durham, a Heatworks solutions is playing a major role in the precise control of temperature and humidity as part of an integrated environmental solution.
Maintaining a constant temperature, humidity and air quality 24/7 within the plant is essential for TRW. 100% efficiency and total reliability is called for in this setting which requires substantial cooling due to the high heat load generated by the process equipment.
Energy costs have been reductd by taking advantage of low ambient night-time temperatures and free-cooling technology. Heatworks designed and installed all the HVAC system for the plant, including chilled water piping and air handling units, as well as the boiler house and local exhaust ventilation system.
An on-going partnership between TRW and Heatworks has seen the development on site of a controls system which is fine tueds to TRW’s needs, enabling TRW to top up the cooling by using either of the two chillers. Remote monitoring and control of temperatures means that Heatworks can dial in from their offices in West Yorkshjre to get a real-time picture of the system and temperatures.
